Happy Father's Day to all you fathers.....

On somewhat of a sad note I was recently contacted by my good friend Weldon Myrick of Nashville, TN and was informed that
the Annual Jayton Jam had reached its end.

Jayton, TX is the hometown of Weldon Myrick. Over the past several years Weldon and friends have put on a free jamboree
held in the EMS building in Jayton, TX each October. Each year
the Jayton Jam grew in numbers and popularity as people would come from many states away for the six hour show. Special
guest stars appeared without pay to play to the appreciative crowds.
Guest stars included, Charlie McCoy, Johnny Duncan, Ferlin Husky, Leona Williams, Curtis Potter
and countless others. I was fortunate enough to get to play rhythm guitar and sing a few songs with one of the greatest bands
ever, the Jayton Jam Band. The Jam Band was lead by Weldon Myrick on steel guitar, Doyle Hoggard, lead guitar, Frank Acri,
drums and Tommy Lucas on bass. It was a dream come true for me and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to have
played in this band.

Weldon is still playing on a regular basis on a weekly show near Nashville, TN and hittin' hot licks only Weldon can produce.
Weldon was staff steel guitar player on the Grand Ole Opry for 32 years and has recorded with nearly every country great. His
accomplishments are far too many to mention here. The city of Jayton named a street in his honor. I believe the sign itself
should be solid gold.

Jayton Jammers have many fond memories to look back on, what a great time we have had. I am sure I am not alone when I
say, "The Jayton Jam will be missed." So to Weldon, Judi and everyone who made the Jam possible I say goodbye and thanks
for the memories.

New Arrivals:

Brandon David Giles was born on March 20, 2006. Parents are David and Dondra Giles of San Antonio. This is my second
grandson, fifth grandchild.
On Father's Day I spent time with Brandon and his big sister Baylee. I held Brandon and we talked baby talk till it was time to
feed and change him. Baylee showed me several new magic tricks from her magic book and reminded me that the hand is quicker
than the eye. We visited, watched NASCAR and had a great lunch. I was showered with Father's Day gifts before I left for
home. I certainly had a wonderful day. It's good to have children who love you... I'm so blessed. My youngest daughter, Adrian,
drove out for a visit. We played games and giggled a lot. Life is Good!
I received a phone call from my first daughter Marsha. She and her family live in West Texas and were on their way to church
services. I don't get to see Marsha and her family as much as I'd like to but they are good to stay in touch throughout the year.
They wished me a Happy Father's Day. As I said, Life is good!

Janet and I were honored with special dinner guests on Monday. Roger and Betty, visiting Bandera from the UK, along with our
friend Bridgette who is visiting from Germany joined Janet, Jim and I for a southern styled dinner. The menu was Fried Pork
Chops, Country Fried Potatoes with onions, Fresh Black Eyed Peas with Mexican style cornbread muffins, Steamed Fresh Baby
Yellow Squash. Janet made a Peach Cobbler from her private recipe book which was topped with Blue Bell Peach Ice Cream.
After desert we all retreated to the porch swings for a nice visit in the cool evening breeze. As night feel across the beautiful
Texas Hill Country lanterns were lit, coffee was served and we broke out the guitars. Our neighbors, Vicki Adams (singer/song
writer) and her son Terry joined us on the porch for an old fashioned "Pickin' & Grinnin" session. Vicki graced us with her
original composition "Dancing On Daddy's Feet" while Terry shinned with some fancy finger work on the guitar. Vicki then had
us all rolling around with another original tune called "Big Mama's Gonna Love You Like No Skinny Woman Can". An evening of
friends and fun on the porch such as we had is not available anywhere at any price.
Roger and Betty brought us a beautiful autumn floral center piece to brighten up an already beautiful table. We are truly blessed
to have such great friends!

Last week my good friend Don Bradley stopped by for a short visit on his way to Alabama for the pecan festival. Don makes his
home in Simi Valley, California. While Don was here we took in a few sites of San Antonio and the beautiful hill country of
Texas. He had never seen the Alamo and was surprised to learn that it's located in the heart of downtown San Antonio. We had
lunch at Fudrucker's, browsed through the River Center Mall, made a brief stop by the Menger Hotel..... Long enough to read
the historical plaques on the outside walls and took a short rest at the Alamo Monument. Later that evening Don took in one of
my shows at the Enchanted Springs Ranch. The few days Don was here was spent discussing music related business. Don has a
good head for business and a great ear for Real Country Music. Much too soon he left to meet up with Freddie Hart in Mobile,
Alabama for the Alabama Pecan Festival. I spoke to Don on the phone last night, he said the Pecan Festival was a huge success.
He said Freddie Hart performed two shows at the festival and brought the house down..... I'm not surprised. Freddie Hart has
always been one of my favorites. Don had left Mobile and was in route to Nashville to visit with David Frizzell and others when I
caught him on the cell phone. He'll stop by Nashville, somewhere in No. Carolina, back through Branson, Mo., Amarillo, TX
and eventually get back home to Simi Valley, CA. What a road trip! Better him than me. Don is one of many thousands behind
the scene who make the wheels of Country Music turn. He is an Ambassador to Country Music and a great friend!

Jayton's 5th annual Jam Session is one for the record books, seems the Jam gets better with each passing year. The Jam is
held each year in Jayton, Texas at their EMS building. The weather was perfect and attendance was the best yet.
It all started with three friends, Coy Hoggard, Billy John Harrison and Weldon Myrick when they decided to get together and
pick a little like old times. News got around fast and before long it grew in to what it is today, "The Jayton Jam".
